SnapGrades
April 13, 2011 by Heather Price
****** BE SURE TO CHECK SNAPGRADES FIRST FOR ALL ASSIGNMENT INFORMATION!!******
We will be completing writing work over the remaining time in school. The DETAILED information will be given in class, and if there is any confusion, more information will be posted here; however, MOST of the info will be only found on SnapGrades. It is your job to look there first!
We will be researching. This does include multiple trips to the Library. We will be going as a class for a number of class days. More information as to when is forthcoming. You will also have to go on your own. Not all of your research will be able to be completed in class, so do expect to have some library time in your local library. As a class, we will be going to Mountainview Library which is a Cobb County Library. If you have a Cobb County Library card, do bring it since you can check books out there.
You WILL NEED at least 100 index cards for note taking. Don't come to school without them!

Your HW is to publish your Pen Pal Letter using MLA formatting. Of course you do not need the heading or a header because IT IS A LETTER!!
You will be graded on the following: Content-*one paragraph for each topic (family/hobbies-interests/description of me/questions) & conventions (grammar, punctuation, spelling, paragraph sentences) as well as following directions.
Next week we have our study guide for the final exam to complete, so be ready! Some of you are going to be exempt from the final, but EVERYONE must complete the study guide! I'll let you know on Monday who is exempt.
Finish your final journals of the semester on a current event. You are going to be doing journals again next semester, so you should really consider buying a new one over our semester Christmas break!

You are to categorize all of the characters from the story within the 4 types & explain WHY the character fits into that category.
The types are DYNAMIC- changing character; learns a lesson or might have a change of heart/ FLAT- One sided personality/ ROUND- Fully developed and shows a wide range of emotions/ STATIC- does not change within the storyEx. The boy from Pompeii is a flat character. I know this because he is only seen one time within the story, and there is no dialogue or interaction to allow development.
Characters to categorize: The Boy, The Master, The Mistress, the telegraph operator, the angry mob, the train passengers, Wolf, Bruce, Lad, the baby, the visitor, the maids, archaeologists, Pompeii people, the baggageman, the policeman

Great discussion today! Thanks everyone for participating!
HW is to study for your lit test on Tuesday. Be sure you have complete sentences in the answers to your questions! For lesson 4's writing, you are to explain how the bible verse and the theme are detailed within the story in NO LESS than 1 complete paragraph which is 5-7 sentences. Be sure to WRITE DOWN what the theme and bible verse are within your writing.
I honestly believe that one paragraph is not enough in which to be thorough, but if it is well written and supported, go for it.

We worked hard on progressive tense in class today. You have a number of activities to complete within the book from pgs 64-71. You need to work on ALL OF THE ACTIVITIES in these pages.
We also reviewed the difference between active and passive voice. Active= the subject DOING the action; Passive=subject receiving the action.
Finish your journals for the week.
Brandon, Cole, & Moriah need to have their verb quizzes signed and brought back. Also, progress updates were sent home for everyone to have signed for a test grade and returned on Monday.
